Breastfeeding Basics

This class will cover the basics of breastfeeding. Topics will include:
- the benefits of breastfeeding
- how breastfeeding works
- getting a good latch
- positions for breastfeeding
- when to feed baby
- making sure baby is getting enough milk
- pumping and storing milk
- troubleshooting
Participants who attend this class will receive a Haakaa manual breast pump, limited to one per family, and may be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card and can shop in the Baby Boutique.
Please arrive to class on time. Participants will not be allowed into class if more than 15 minutes late.

Understanding Gestational Diabetes & Hypertension in Pregnancy

Overview: This educational class is designed for expecting parents to gain a clear understanding of two common pregnancy-related conditions: gestational diabetes and hypertensive disorders, including gestational hypertension and preeclampsia. Through expert guidance, participants will learn how these conditions develop, how they are diagnosed, and most importantly, how to manage them for a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

Gestational Diabetes:
- What it is and why it occurs during pregnancy
- Risk factors and screening methods
- How gestational diabetes affects both mother and baby
- Nutrition and lifestyle strategies to manage blood sugar
- Monitoring techniques and treatment options, including insulin therapy
Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy:
- Types: chronic hypertension, gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, and eclampsia
- Signs, symptoms, and diagnostic criteria
- Risk factors and potential complications
- Dietary and lifestyle recommendations
- When medical intervention or early delivery may be necessary
